For every 15 people screened only 1 gets tested

The Western Cape has released screening and testing data..

Out out of 41099 persons screened, 2782 met the criteria to move on to testing ie. for every 15 people screened, only 1 was tested. Current average infection rate based on positives/no. of tests in SA is 1 in 36 which equates to 1 infection for every 540 persons screened.

It appears crystal clear that the screening teams are having to search long and hard for symptoms, and testing teams are finding the virus to be highly elusive. The governments goal of slowing down the infection rate so the outbreak peak occurs in Sept in well on song. Of course this also means that the current lockdown is just a teaser for what’s still to come.

On Thursday, the Western Cape recorded “our most successful single day of screening to date- with 12 381 people screened in communities across the province. This brings the total number of people screened in the province to 41 099 – with 2 782 people tested since community screenings started at the beginning of the month” source
